Whirlpool Tank is the most commonly used separation equipment for thermal coagulate. Compared with other separation equipment, it has the characteristics of simple structure, convenient operation and good separation effect. Whirlpool Tank is a vertical cylindrical tank, in which hot wort is pumped along the tangent direction to form a rotary flow. As a result of the gyration effect, the particles of the thermosetting matter are deposited in the center of the trough bottom in a solid mound shape along the direction of the resultant force formed by gravity and centripetal force, so as to achieve the purpose of solid-liquid separation, and the clear wort is discharged from the side wort outlet.
①Whirlpool Tank is a flat bottomed cylindrical vessel with a slope of 1% – 2% at the outlet. Generally, there are two wort tangent inlets, one is at the bottom of the trough, and the other is 1 / 3 from the bottom of the trough .At the height, in order to increase the rotation speed of wort in the trough, sometimes two inlets are set at the same height.
②Generally, there are 2-3 wort outlets, the upper outlet is at 1 / 2-2 / 3 of the liquid layer height, the main outlet is at 1 / 10 of the liquid layer height, and the lower outlet is at the bottom of the tank. A check valve is set at the wort discharge pipe and the outlet of the wort pump to prevent the precipitation from being affected by mixed air or wort backflow. The order of discharge is from top to bottom. When opening the valve, pay attention to the flow of wort to prevent the sediment from being impacted by too fast flow rate and causing wort turbidity.
③ The ratio of the height of wort level to the diameter of the tank (height diameter ratio) is generally 1: (2 ~ 3).
④ In order to avoid local eddy current affecting the sedimentation effect, the inner wall of the tank should be smooth and clean, and the edge should be flat without edges and corners. Except the upper part of the tank is equipped with a water spray ring pipe for washing, no accessories, such as cooling pipe, ladder, protruding pressure manway, shall be installed in the tank.
⑤ Flat windshield shall be installed at the outlet of the exhaust pipe of whirlpool tank. Open when feeding, exhaust, close in time after feeding, reduce wort oxidation. Open the wort when it is released to avoid negative pressure.
